Online Application for Studies Within the Framework of ERASMUS

Dear Student,

In order to ensure your proper registration, we ask that you carefully read the information below and follow the instructions given:


Application Deadlines
  • Winter Semester: May 31st
    (application period April 1st - May 31st)
  • Summer Semester: November 30th 
    (application period October 1st - November 30th)


Special Exception: Medical students must apply directly to CHIC (Charité International Cooperation) and do not have to apply using the online registraton system!


During the time periods below, online applications for studies at the Humboldt-Universität will be reviewed, and Nominations and Confirmation Letters will be sent out:

  • for the Winter Semester: May 16th to July 31st  (for students requiring a visa: May 16th to June 20th)
  • for the Summer Semester: December 2nd to January 31st  (for students requiring a visa: December 2nd to December 20th)


Please note that applications for the Summer Semester will not be processed before December 2nd, and applications for the Winter Semester will not be processed before May 16th.  Inquiries before these given dates cannot be answered.

Language Requirements
  • It is absolutely vital to have a good command of the German language if studies at the Humboldt-Universität are to be successful. The Humboldt Language Centre offers an online placement test (► C-Test), which you are asked take before applying online.
  • As a rule, a minimum of 35 to 60 points (!) is required in order to be admitted to study at Humboldt, though the requirements of the faculties vary. Please, see the Merkblatt Sprachniveau for further information on the German skills required for ERASMUS studies at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
  • Alternatively, German language ability can be proven by submiting documentation of successful completion of one of the following exams:
    • the "Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung," the "Kleine Deutsche Sprachdiplom," or the "Große Deutsche Sprachdiplom" of the Goethe Institut,
    • the DSH (Deutsche Sprachprüfung zum Hochschulzugang), or
    • the TestDaF


How to apply online for the ERASMUS programme: A step-by-step guide


  1. Register online at https://www.uni-exchange.eu.
  2. You will receive an e-mail with a confirmation link.
  3. Click on the link to log into the online registration system.
  4. Enter your personal information (password, surname, first name, mail address, etc.)
  5. Enter the name of your home university, course of studies, and the number of semesters you have studied (including the current semester).
  6. Choose the subject areas you would like to study at the Humboldt-Universität. Only subject combinations will be shown, which the home university and Humboldt-Universität have agreed upon.
  7. You will be asked to enter your c-Test (Deutsch-Einstufungstest) results.
  8. Once all the required information has been entered, you may submit your application. Your application will be sent electronically to Humboldt-Universität. You do not need to print it out! This applies to all further applications as well.
  9. During the application review period (see above), your application will assessed. Nominations and Confirmation Letters will be sent via email during this time period as well.
  10. The Nomination (which additionally confirms the subject areas you have been approved to study at the Humboldt-Universität) needs to be signed by your home university’s Erasmus coordinator and by yourself. The Nomination needs to be stamped by your university as well! Send the nomination by post to the following address:

If the nomination - signed and sealed - is not sent back to Humboldt-Universität, the ERASMUS application cannot be processed. In this case, the Confirmation of Admission to study at Humboldt will not be granted!
