Language Requirements
  • It is absolutely vital to have a good command of the German language if studies at Humboldt are to be successful. The Humboldt Language Centre offers an online placement test (C-Test), which you are asked take before applying online.
  • A minimum of 35 to 50 points (!) is required as a rule to be admitted to study at Humboldt, though the requirements of the faculties vary.
Please, see the Merkblatt Sprachniveau for further information on the command of German required for ERASMUS studies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
  • As an alternative to the C-Test, proof may be submitted that one of the following language examinations has been passed:
    • the Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung or the Kleine or the Große Deutsche Sprachdiplom, or
    • the DSH (Deutsche Sprachprüfung zum Hochschulzugang), or
    • the TestDaF
