5.1.6 Registration as an occasional or visiting student

Occasional students | Guest auditors
Occasional students/guest auditors (Gasthörer/innen) can attend a selection of regular lectures and classes and, given the agreement of the lecturer, they can also obtain credit certificates (Leistungsnachweise), but they cannot sit examinations. The attainment will, however, not be recognised for later studies (thus, there is no possibility to bypass the Numerus Clausus). In order to attend lectures as a guest auditor, a payment of € 15 has to be made for any teaching period of 45 minutes per week over one semester, generally referred to as Semesterwochenstunde (SWS). The lectures and classes in question must be named on the application form. In order to give their approval, the lecturer has to sign the application form.

Those from abroad who did not receive admission to study, but are already in Berlin, have the possibility to attend lectures by registering as guest auditors.

Visiting students
Attending single lectures at other universities
Students enrolled at another higher education institution may attend some lectures or classes at Humboldt as visiting students (Nebenhörer/innen). Visiting students who are not enrolled at a Berlin or Brandenburg institution of higher education are required to pay € 15 for any teaching period of 45 minutes per week over one semester.

The number of classes you take as a visiting student must not exceed six periods of 45 minutes per week. As a visiting student, it is possible to obtain credit certificates and credit points.
