Terms and conditions of participation
The International Office of the Humboldt-University Berlin is the
organizer of the competition “Humboldt’s voices”. The entries will be
presented – amongst other occasions – in a slideshow during the
inauguration ceremony of Humboldt-University’s 200th anniversary on 12
October, 2009 at Berlin’s Konzerthaus on Gendarmenmarkt. The
International Office will also make the various entries available on
its website.
Every foreign natural person who is studying, or has studied at
undergraduate or postgraduate level at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin
is eligible to participate.
Each participant may submit only one entry. The entries have to be
labelled with the following personal information: academic title,
surname, first name, postal address, e-mail address, nationality,
student/PhD student/alumni, time and duration of your stay at
Humboldt-University Berlin, short description of your entry. Along with
your entry you will have to submit an agreement to the terms and
conditions of participation and a declaration for the return of your
material.
The entry must be postmarked by 15 June, 2009.

Humboldt-Universität will not refund the cost of postage.
There is no entry fee.
Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin excludes liability. The exclusion of
liability does not apply to physical or health damage that is due to a
negligent breach of duty on behalf of Humboldt-Universität or a
deliberate or negligent breach of duty on behalf of its legal
representatives or persons employed to perform its obligations.
Moreover, it does not apply for other damage that is due to a negligent
breach of duty on behalf of Humboldt-Universität or a deliberate or
grossly negligent breach of duty on behalf of its legal representatives
or persons employed to perform its obligations.
The participants are requested to submit a written statement along with
their entry, declaring whether their contribution should be returned to
them – in this case we kindly ask you to include the necessary postage
costs – or whether it will be collected at Humboldt-Universität by no
later than 15th March, 2010, or whether it should be destroyed if it is
neither returned nor retrieved. The terms and conditions of
participation must be expressly accepted.
A judging panel, composed of professors and students of
Humboldt-Universität, will announce the winners of the cash and
non-cash prizes by 30 August 2009. The panel’s decision will be final
and binding. Cash and non-cash prizes will be awarded. Charges for
money transfer are not included and will be incurred at the prize
winner’s expense. No cash equivalent will be available for non-cash
prizes.
Entrants cannot insist on the presentation or usage of their material
entered in the competition.
The entrant assures that the following assignment of rights does not
infringe any rights of third parties, in particular intellectual
property rights, rights of use and – in the case of persons visible in
a photo, a photo collage, a video or a short film – personal rights of
third parties. If one or more persons are recognizably depicted in a
photo, a photo collage, a video or a short film, the individuals
concerned will have to consent to the publication of the photo, photo
collage, video or short film. The entrant discharges
Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin from all claims lodged by third parties
due to the violation of their rights.
The entrant concedes the spatial, temporal and with regard to content
unlimited, non-exclusive rights of usage of the work entered in the
competition, including any accompanying text, to Humboldt-Universität
zu Berlin for all measures linked to the competition. These measures
include: the reproduction and/or photocopying of the entered works and
accompanying texts; the usage of reproductions or photocopies for the
presentation on Humboldt-Universität’s website, for a slideshow during
the inauguration ceremony of Humboldt-Universität’s 200th anniversary
on 12th October, 2009 in the Konzerthaus on Gendarmenmarkt, for
publication in accompanying print products such as posters,
advertisements, brochures, catalogues etc., for any news coverage of
the competition and other public relations concerning the
competition.
The assignment of rights includes the right to adapt the entry and to
employ third parties (e.g. photographers) to perform any of the
above-mentioned measures for the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
The entrants are kindly asked to enclose a signed copy of the
competition’s terms and conditions of participation.
The law of the Federal Republic of Germany shall govern the entrance to
the competition in accordance with these terms and conditions, as well
as all questions and disputes pertaining to the competition.
