Finding Accommodation

The International Office at Humboldt-University provides general assistance to international research interns when looking for suitable accommodation in Berlin, but is also determined to offer specific accommodation placements, if student residence capacities allow for it.

Depending on the duration of the internship and the intern’s arrival date within the academic year, research interns may be offered an accommodation placement in the student hall residence facilities in Adlershof. However, it should be noted that a successful housing placement at Adlershof cannot be guaranteed by the International Office beforehand.

To receive more information on the student residence in Adlershof, which is located near the natural sciences department buildings of Humboldt-University, please visit the following web-page.

Should you prefer to look for private accommodation in Berlin, it is advisable to familiarize yourself with the typical formalities and practices of the private housing market in advance. This may regard matters like tenancy agreements, subletting regulations, average rent and –if deemed necessary- required documents to include in a tenancy agreement. For a start, you can find some information on this topic here.

Available rooms in flat shares or available apartments are usually advertised online, particularly on the following web-pages:

www.wg-gesucht.de

www.studenten-wg.de

www.immobilienscout24.de

www.berlin.studenten--wohnung.de

www.immowelt.de

The variety of these online offers contain several housing options to choose from, for instance rooms in a flat share („WG-Zimmer“), apartments („Wohnungen“) or short-term accommodation („Wohnen auf Zeit“ or „Tagesmiete“). Apart from this, it may also help to take a look at the universities’ notice-boards (“schwarze Bretter”, located in the main building of Humboldt-University) where housing opportunities are advertised on a regular basis, as well.
