Training "Studying and Living in an International Context"

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic this training will take place online. 

Dates: 

In English: Monday, 30.11., Tuesday, 01.12. and Thursday 03.12.

In German: Monday, 9.11., Tuesday, 10.11. and Thursday 12.11.

This training is designed to take place over a course of three sessions. It is only possible to participate in all three of them. Please take note that it is not possible to attend individual sessions alone.

Picture this: You are in a very important conversation and the phone of your interlocutor rings; he picks up his phone and talks for a while. Afterwards, he doesn't apologize and makes no explanation for that. Without being aware of it, you interpret the situation immediately. Perhaps you find the person rude or think that your conversation is not so important for him. But maybe you find his behavior completely normal and you don't notice anything about it.

The way we perceive, what we think is right or wrong, how we communicate and act in different situations is determined by our cultural background. Consequently, cultural differences may lead to misunderstandings and conflicts, which might not happen if both parties are aware of specific cultural codes.

Through practical and interactive activities, participants will have a chance to discover their own "cultural imprints" as well as to analyse common reaction patterns in different intercultural settings. These will help participants to operate more confidently in different intercultural contexts.

The workshop is suitable for outgoing students in order to prepare for their exchange semester as well as for incoming international students who would like to find out more about local cultures.

*Please note: This workshop is not designed to cover one specific culture. Different cultures in general will be discussed with examples from countries from all around the world.
