DAAD Prize 2023

for Outstanding Achievements of International Students and Doctoral Candidates

Thousands of international students are enrolled at German universities. They enrich the university community both culturally and academically. This year, in order to honour these circumstances, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has once again provided funds to the universities in order to award the DAAD Prize to outstanding international students.

At the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, the prize can be awarded in the amount of

1.000 Euro

The DAAD Prize is intended to honour an outstanding international student or doctoral candidate who has distinguished him*herself both through special academic achievements and remarkable social or intercultural commitment. Only international students who are enrolled at HU can receive the DAAD Prize. Students should be at an advanced stage of their Bachelor's degree (at least 2nd year) or Master's degree (at least 2nd semester), have good academic achievements and be socially engaged. In addition, young graduates (the final examination should not be longer than 3 months ago) and doctoral students can also be nominated. Achievements acquired at the HU should be clearly highlighted and evaluated or certified.

Applicants must submit an outstanding piece of academic work (seminar paper, term paper or the like, no dissertations) as well as further application documents:

  • Letter of application and motivation according to the call for applications (2 pages max.)
  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form
  • Current enrolment certificate (Studienbescheinigung)
  • Current transcripts (from AGNES, not for doctoral candidates)
  • One appraisal from an university lecturer/professor (see file)
  • References or other relevant documents according to the call for applications (e.g. collaboration in organisations, intercultural commitments or volunteering at the applicant’s university institute or elsewhere)
