HU professor’s project wins Inter Circle U. Prize

Circle U.’s new award for inter- and transdisciplinary research goes to “Sustainable Fisheries”, a project enlisting fishers in to help improve habitats and protect threatened species.

The three winners of the first Inter Circle U. Prize (ICUP) for inter- and transdisciplinary research have been announced – and one of them is HU’s own Robert Arlinghaus! Arlinghaus is a professor of integrative fisheries management at Humboldt and the Leibnitz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries.

His winning project “Sustainable Fisheries” has developed solutions in collaboration with local and regional stakeholders. The scientific studies proceed from an interdisciplinary perspective asking fundamental ecological and socio-economic questions about how the humans and environment interact.

The ICUP will be awarded at a ceremony during the conference on interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research for sustainable development, to be hosted at the Université catholique de Louvain on 25 November.
