Accomodation available

Due to a high number of cancellations during the summer term, we have rooms available in our dormitories. These rooms are now also available to visiting PhD students, interns or HU students returning from abroad. The rent of the rooms is limited until August 31st and only available to persons enrolled at a university of Berlin. Click for more information and contact

Exchange students planning to study at the university during the upcoming summer term

The situation in Germany concerning the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) is developing very rapidly. Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin has decided to postpone the potential beginning of classes for the summer term until April 20, 2020; decisions about cancelling the summer term classes or proceeding with them will be taken soon. Exchange students who were planning to study at the university during the summer term of 2020 are herewith informed that it is likely that class-room teaching at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin will be severely limited if at all possible.

Given the existing limitations to international travel we strongly advise you against any travel at this point of time except return travel to your home country.

We will update this announcement as the situation develops. Consulting official websites for current information is certainly advised. Please contact us via e-mail should you have any questions concerning a planned stay at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

Exchange students who are already enrolled

During this difficult time, here is some good news first: Your VBB semester ticket for the winter semester 2019/20, which should expire on March 31st, will still be accepted as ticket for the use of public transport until April 30.

International students who are already enrolled for the summer term are urged to check whether a return to their home country is still possible. At this point there is more than a good possibility that class-room teaching at  Humboldt-Universität in the summer term 2020 will be severely restricted if at all possible.

If you have been enrolled for a semester or more, and you have questions concerning continuing your studies or your visa status, please contact us:

If you are an Erasmus student, please contact the Erasmus coordinator of your faculty.

All other exchange students, please contact:

Please also see the information of the Visa Service regarding the current situation for applying or extending the residence permit.

If students are registered at the Humboldt-University as exchange students and their home university also offers online classes, they can attend online courses at the Humboldt-University and at their home university simultaneously.

Visiting doctoral students and visiting scholars

As closures connected with the spread of the Corona virus are intensifying, we are advising any and all doctoral students and visiting scholars – if they are already in Berlin – to check whether returning to their home countries is currently their best option.  Those who have not yet arrived in Berlin are strongly advised to cancel (hopefully postpone) their travel plans for Berlin for the time being.

Should you have questions concerning your stay, please get in touch with the contact below via e-mail.
