CENTRAL

With the Central European Network for Teaching and Research in Academic Liasion (CENTRAL), Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and its partners are setting a new standard for European university networks

CENTRAL is the site of institutional collaboration between Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, the University of Vienna, the University of Warsaw, Charles University (Prague), and Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, thus creating a multilateral network of leading CENTRAL European research universities. Founded in 2014 on the initiative of Humboldt-Universität, the network is based on previously established close bilateral bonds between the participating universities. It reinforces the academic interests of its members and supports exchange in research and teaching across all disciplines.

CENTRAL strives to promote academic projects and events and supports junior researchers as well as students in developing their international profile. An additional focus is set on exchange in the areas of governance and administration. The visibility of Central Europe as a research location is significantly increased through CENTRAL.

The Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin successfully applied for funding by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) within the “Strategic Partnerships” line of funding. CENTRAL will receive an amount of approximately 1 million Euros between 2015 and 2018. In 2018, CENTRAL was granted follow-up funding of approx. 240,000 Euros for two more years by the DAAD.

Further information about the activities in CENTRAL, funded projects and current events can be found on the networks’ website: www.centralnetwork.org.
