Matriculation

Research interns will be enrolled at Humboldt-University as international students during their research stay. A proper matriculation will provide the intern with the status of an international student at Humboldt-University, which directly affects the nature of the visa application and the required insurance coverage. This should be taken into account when preparing the research stay.

On a related note, it should be pointed out that the full amount for matriculation must be paid for only when enrolling for a full semester at Humboldt-University. Interns who arrive and/ or leave during the running semester must pay a proportion of the full amount. To give an idea what the process of enrolling specifically amounts to: the matriculation fee for the winter semester 2014/15 was 293,17€.

After having enrolled at Humboldt-University successfully, interns will receive a student ID which also serves as their ticket for public transport in and around Berlin. The process of matriculation also allows prospective interns to attend subject-related courses and to make use of the universities’ facilities, such as the extensive holdings of various specialist libraries or the IT-support.

However, in light of limited capacities in the respective departments, prospective interns are advised to check with the International Office whether these benefits can actually be offered to them.

Please do not hesitate to contact us in this matter.
