PROMOS - Final Thesis (A)

Program description

Scholarships are available for all countries and intended for the preparation of the final thesis only. Applicants need to fulfill the requirements for the final thesis by the time of application. The thesis does not have to be registered yet, but students need to have assgined a topic already which they submit with their application.

Type of funding

• partial scholarship rate (living expenses) and/or
• travel allowance

The monthly scholarship rate for living expenses is 350 to 550 Euro. The amount of the travel allowance depends on the country of destination. For PROMOS funding rates, please check the table below on this page. 

Application details

Students from all subjects may apply, who are matriculates at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Postgraduate/doctoral students are not eligible for sponsorship). 

In case the stay abroad overlaps the two mobility periods, please always apply for the period in which your stay begins. 

The PROMOS scholarship cannot be combined with other scholarships financed by German public funds. The Deutschlandstipendium and the PROMOS scholarship can be received simultaneously. In case of the Auslands-BAföG special rules apply.

After the stay students must submit an experience report.

Required application documents

• Enrollment certificate
• Curriculum Vitae (tabular form)
• Letter of motivation (2-3 pages)
  • ​detailing your intend for your thesis project abroad and including a detailed schedule/timing of the thesis writing process
• Transcript of records
  • stamped and signed by the examination office, displaying your current average grade
• Copy of university diplomas 
  • in case you already completed other studies (B.A./B.Sc., diploma)
• Proof of adequate language skills (for the language of instruction)
  • e.g. DAAD language certificate, TOEFL or IELTS, completed language course (sufficient language level)
  • max. 2 years old
• Proof of correspondence with the host institution or supervisor
• Letter of recommendation 
  • from your supervisor who confirms the significance of the project for your thesis
• Confirmation of assignment of the thesis​
• Copy of your passport

Lecturers from HU may send their letter of recommendation directly via e-mail to Ms Katharina König (promos.international@hu-berlin.de). Students from HU that applied through a worldwide university partnership contract at a partner university/had been nominated by us for a semester stay abroad, can refer to this in their application. In this case the letter of recommendation will be provided by the International Office.
