Erasmus+ Teaching
If you teach at HU, you can visit a partner university for a short teaching period as part of the Erasmus programme. You can find out here which funding is available for your project and what to bear in mind.
With Erasmus+ Teaching, HU staff members with a lectureship (including doctoral students) can teach at partner universities abroad. Teaching visits such as this can be funded if they take place at a partner university in one of the Programme Countries participating in the Erasmus programme. You can also apply for funding to invite guest lecturers from abroad.
Teaching mobility can be funded if the following requirements are met:
- There is a valid Erasmus contract on teaching mobility between HU and the chosen partner university (click here for the current list of collaborations).
- The planned stay lasts for a minimum of two and a maximum of 14 days. One travel day before and after the stay can also be funded.
- The number of teaching hours is at least eight hours per week (for every further day of your stay beyond that, the minimum number of hours is calculated proportionately).
Provided that the abovementioned requirements are met, your business trip can be funded with a per diem allowance, the amount of which depends on the country of destination. There is also a travel expenses allowance that is based on the distance to be covered. You can find the respective rates here.
Per diem allowance for working days and additional travel days
- Group 1 – Programme countries with a high cost of living (Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden): 180 euros per day
- Group 2 – Programme countries with a medium cost of living (Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Cyprus): 160 euros per day
- Group 3 – Programme countries with a low cost of living (Bulgaria, Estonia, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Republic of North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Turkey, Hungary): 140 euros per day
Please note: Holidays and public holidays can be combined with your business trip from the point of view of Erasmus, but cannot be funded. Please inform us before beginning your trip if you wish to combine these with a private stay.
Travel expenses allowance for the outbound and inbound travel as well as transfers
The Erasmus+ Distance Calculator determines the linear distance from Berlin to your destination. The allowance is then based on the travel distance:
- 10 – 99 kilometres: 20 euros
- 100 – 499 kilometres: 180 euros (with green travel: 210 euros)
- 500 – 1,999 kilometres: 275 euros (with green travel: 320 euros)
- 2,000 – 2,999 kilometres: 360 euros (with green travel: 410 euros)
- 3,000 – 3,999 kilometres: 530 euros (with green travel: 610 euros)
- 4,000 – 7,999 kilometres: 820 euros
- 8,000 or more kilometres: 1,500 euros
Please note: HU is obligated to notify your tax office of these lump sum contributions. The payments are taxable. We therefore recommend that you keep all the receipts for expenses in connection with your business stay and claim them in the following calendar year as part of the annual wage tax declaration from your tax office.
Applying for teaching mobility funding is possible at short notice. It is important that all the required documents have been received before you begin your business trip. Completed or ongoing teaching visits cannot be funded.
Preparation
- Before you apply for the Erasmus funding, please discuss the financial feasibility of your project and the related organisational steps with the Erasmus team.
- Please also clarify in advance the approval of the teaching visit by your superior.

You will receive an automatically generated email requesting that you complete an online questionnaire. Please answer the questions fully.

Under certain conditions, you can apply for further funding in addition to the abovementioned Erasmus allowances. The following options are available:
