Extension of stay

Under specific conditions, Programme students have the possibility to extend their stay at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin beyond their originally planned programme end.

Students taking part in the ERASMUS+ Programme can extend their period of study at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin by one semester, bringing their total stay to an overall period of 12 months.

Students coming to the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin within the context of University-to-University contracts or other exchange programmes, as well as PhD students can extend their stay to an overall period of study of 3 semesters.

The application for extension of stay has to be filled out completely, signed by all parties, and handed in in the International Office, room 2263, during office hours.

Application deadlines are February 14th for summer term and July 14th for the winter term. Please note that you are not exempt from the re-registration period and the timely payment of the student transportation pass fee. After February 15th or July 15th respectively, a late fee will be assessed for late payments.  We therefore suggest an early decision regarding a possible extension.
