Visa Service for Students

Our Visa Service is available to all international students of HU Berlin. Through the Visa Service, you can both apply for and extend your residence permit and receive multilingual support and advice. This way, you can save yourself the trip to the Berlin Foreigners' Registration Office (Berliner Ausländerbehörde).

Doctoral students should contact the International Scholar Services (ISS).

The queue numbers will be issued starting with the opening of the Info Desk (Tuesday from 10:00 and Thursday from 12:00). According to our opening hours, we can only issue a limited number of tickets. Please help us by preparing your documents and filling out the application forms as well as possible - the Info Desk is happy to support you with this!

As of 1.11.2019, the Foreigners' Registration Office will ONLY issue the electronic residence permit (elektronischer Aufenthaltstitel, eAT). This means for us that every application or extension of a residence permit submitted by 30.09.2019 will be issued as an adhesive label into the passport according to the current rules. In October, we cannot accept any passports. (We are nevertheless happy to advise you. In urgent cases, you will have to go to the Foreigners' Registration Office yourself.) After this deadline, only eAT's in credit card format will be issued, which will lead to longer waiting times and higher costs. The exact procedures are not yet regulated. Please take this situation into account in your planning.

We advise all of you to use the Visa Service if possible. The processing time is approx. 3-4 weeks! At the beginning of the semester, however, the processing time can take somewhat longer.

If, however, you are in a hurry or wish to go personally to the Berlin Foreigners' Registration Office, please note that the new service building for students is located at Keplerstraße 2, 10589 Berlin (Charlottenburg).
