Financial Aid

We award a limited number of scholarships every year. The documents submitted for the application, as well as an additional task, are decisive for the selection. Please contact the program coordinator for information on the current availability. The program-specific guidelines for awarding scholarships apply.

Further financial aid opportunities need to be discussed with the sending institution.

Accommodation

With recommendations, practical tips and individual advice, we support participants in their search for adequate accommodation in Berlin.

Credits

Participants will receive 15 ECTS upon successful completion of the internship. This applies for a full-time internship during 12 weeks. Possible special conditions of an internship project are to be considered. In case of successful completion, a certificate stating the credit points will be issued.

Enrollment

Approved students will be enrolled as students of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin during their stay.

They will need to pay a one-time semester fee of approximately 200 € upon arrival. This is an administration fee and includes a contribution to the semester ticket (for free public transportation), social facilities and other benefits (budget-priced meals in the canteens, etc.).

Visa Application

Depending on where a student comes from, a student visa may be required. The visa application procedure should be started as soon as possible after receiving the acceptance of participation.

Health Insurance

In order to ensure sufficient insurance coverage is guaranteed throughout your research stay abroad, it is advisable to check in advance which kind of health insurance cover is needed for the duration and nature of your individual internship. It may be possible that proof of health insurance cover is required when applying for a visa, in any case, however, such proof will be needed when enrolling at Humboldt-Universität as a participant of the Humboldt Internship Program. The monthly costs are approximately 80 €/ month.

An alternative could be to take out a private health insurance policy for the duration of the stay, which is similar to the benefits of the statutory health insurance. Humboldt Internship Program can offer individual consultation upon request and after acceptance to the program.

It is advisable to contact a German health insurance company before your arrival in Berlin and take out a suitable health insurance for your stay as an intern. Different regulations may apply should you be insured privately in your home country. More information on this topic can be found in the “Guide for international students”:

Health insurance coverage (on arrival)
