Private Health Insurance Providers

All students are subject to compulsory insurance. This means that you must be insured with a statutory health insurance company, which we also recommend because of the large, guaranteed range of benefits. However, there may be circumstances why you would like to have your insurance coverage regulated by a private health insurance company, for example, if you are not accepted by the statutory health insurance company (students over 30 years of age), are only in Germany for a short time or for other reasons.

Proof of sufficient health insurance coverage is required for enrolment, as well as for applying for a residence permit at the State Office for Immigration - you should definitely consider this.

The market is large and you have a free choice. It is your responsibility to decide to what extent you insure yourself for your own personal circumstances and needs. We would like to name a few providers here who have special offers for students - but often for a limited period of time. Please note that once you are exempt from this insurance obligation, you can no longer switch to a statutory health insurance provider during your entire period of study in Germany.
