HU President welcomes new cohort of the International Parliament Scholarship
The Paul Löbe Building in the German Bundestag was very well attended on 5 June. Around 500 guests attended this year’s reception for the International Parliamentary Scholarship (IPS), including the HU's President, Prof. Dr Julia von Blumenthal, and the Vice President for Research, Prof. Dr Christoph Schneider.
In her welcome address, the HU President emphasised the importance of the programme for preserving democratic values and encouraged this year’s 91 scholarship holders to learn from one another, gain new perspectives, and build bridges between countries and cultures. During the subsequent reception, all guests had the opportunity to engage with the scholarship holders and explore culinary snacks and beverages from their home countries.
The International Parliamentary Scholarship (IPS) of the German Bundestag offers international university graduates from around 50 countries the opportunity to gain practical insight into Germany’s parliamentary democracy. After an introductory programme, participants complete an internship with a Member of the German Bundestag.
As cooperation partners, Berlin’s universities also offer a diverse programme: The scholarship holders are enrolled at HU during the programme and can attend courses of their choice in the summer term. On the “University Day,” FU, HU, and TU present their study and doctoral programmes, and researchers discuss current findings with the scholarship holders. Additionally, they have the opportunity to organise their own event on a self-chosen topic at HU.
