Humboldt-Universität and the University of São Paulo (USP) are extending their strategic partnership. The cooperation agreement with Brazil’s most prestigious university provides for a further five years of collaboration.

The partnership with USP is HU’s most important collaboration in South America and has been in place since 1984. In 2015, the relationship was strengthened through a Strategic Partnership Agreement. The Memorandum of Understanding signed on 18 June 2025 secures the continuation of cooperation in research projects, the mutual exchange of researchers, students, and staff from both universities, as well as the organisation of joint events.

In addition, cross-university research initiatives will continue to be supported through an annual seed funding of 5,000.

Founded in 1934, USP is regarded as the leading university in Brazil and Latin America as a whole. With approximately 20 per cent of all academic publications in Brazil, it makes an outstanding contribution to the country’s scientific output. USP’s 42 teaching and research units are spread across eight campuses in the state of São Paulo. Around 90,000 students are currently enrolled at the university.
