Circle U. Climate Day: Urban nature and history hike
The Ice Age still shapes Berlin today. The Panke is a body of water that runs from Barnim to Berlin-Mitte, where it flows into the Spree near Friedrichstraße. The course of the small river is a relic of the last Ice Age, when meltwater from the glaciers made its way through the sandy layers of the ice-free landscapes.
The Panke has shaped the ecosystems between Barnim and Spree for thousands of years and been part of urban development for centuries. Along its shores, we observe traces of the geological past, as well as the more recent natural history of the urban landscape's historical design. The meeting point for this hike is at the iron eagle in the railing of Weidendammbrücke, in the direction of Friedrichstraße train station. Registration to join the hike is open until 28 May.
