As part of the Hilde Domin Programme, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is once again offering scholarships for the winter semester 2026/27 for students and doctoral candidates at risk. The aim is to enable affected individuals from non-EU countries to continue their academic careers in Germany.
Eligible applicants are students and doctoral candidates from non-EU countries who are unable to exercise their right to education due to social or political persecution. Direct applications are not permitted – only German universities or recognised organisations may nominate candidates. To be eligible, nominees must be of legal age and must not be residing in Germany or the EU at the time of nomination. Depending on the degree and programme, proof of German or English language skills at B2 level is required. The most recent degree must have been obtained within the last two years and must be recognised in Germany via Anabin. Second degrees, as well as courses in medicine, law, art, music and architecture are not eligible for funding. The internal nomination deadline at HU is 5 September.
