Contact ISS

The International Scholar Services (ISS) will support researchers and PhD candidates from abroad and help them settle in to university and city life.

+++ ISS temporarily closed  +++

Dear international scholars,

We hereby inform you that ISS are closed due to the pandemic spread of the coronavirus. This means that we can only give advice online at the moment. We do our very best to answer your questions as soon as possible. We hope you understand that due to the current situation there might be delays.

Please note that the application for or extension of your residence permit through ISS is currently NOT possible.

Immigration Office Update

While the Immigration Office continues to remain closed for the public they introduced an online registration for certain groups of people whose visa/residence permits expire soon or have expired already.
Please note that this online registration does not serve to apply for or extend your residence permit. Still, it confirms your legal stay until the Immigration Office is operating as usual again and can process the actual application properly.

Please have a look at the Immigration Office’s official website to register online if your visa/residence permit has expired recently or is going to expire soon.

From 4th May 2020 onwards Berlin Immigration Office is serving those customers who registered online or who since 28th April 2020 have been explicitly invited  to attend an appointment. In such cases you will receive an email invitation or will be requested to submit documentation. Please also check your junk email folder in case the invitation lands there.

In any case, we kindly urge you to visit their website for more details and other concerns:
